1 Dead,10 Wounded In Shootings Throughout Thanksgiving Holiday Weekend

CHICAGO (STMW) –A man is dead and at least 10 people have been wounded in separate South Side shootings since the Thanksgiving weekend began Wednesday night.

A 27-year-old man is dead after he was shot three times in the chest Saturday in the West Side Garfield Park neighborhood.

The shooting happened at 12:37 p.m. in the 3100 block of West Arthington Street, police said.

He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital where he was pronounced dead, police said. The Cook County Medical Examiner’s office confirmed the death but could not immediately provide identification of the victim pending family notification.

In other shootings this weekend:

Two men, ages 19 and 21, were shot about 1:25 a.m. Saturday while they were walking on the sidewalk in the 4700 block of South King Drive in the Bronzeville neighborhood, police said. The men said they heard shots and felt pain after they left a party.

The 21-year-old suffered a gunshot wound to the arm and the 19-year-old was shot in the abdomen, police said. A friend drove them to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County and they were both listed in “stable” condition.

A light-colored SUV was seen fleeing the scene, but it is unknown if the vehicle was involved in the shooting, police said.

Early Friday, a man was shot through a window while he was sitting in a home in the South Shore neighborhood.

The man, 27, suffered a graze wound to the forehead about 12:05 a.m. in the 7600 block of South Dorchester Avenue, police said. He was taken in good condition to Jackson Park Hospital and Medical Center.

Less than 30 minutes earlier, a 22-year-old man was found lying in an alley with a gunshot wound to his upper left leg in the Back of the Yards neighborhood, police said.

Police found the man, who was “highly intoxicated” and refused medical treatment, just before midnight Thursday in the 4800 block of South Bishop Street.

Thursday afternoon, two men were shot in the Greater Grand Crossing neighborhood.

The men, ages 27 and 24, were shot about 4 p.m. in the 7100 block of South Wentworth Avenue, and were able to make it on their own to Saint Bernard Hospital and Health Care Center, police said.

The 27-year-old was shot twice in the right arm, but further details about their injuries were not immediately known, police said. They were later transferred to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County.

Both men are documented gang members, police said. The shooting is believed to be gang-related.

Early Thursday, a man was wounded in a separate drive-by shooting in Englewood.

The man, 27, was walking in the 100 block of West 63rd Street about 1:15 a.m. when a black four-door car drove up alongside him and someone inside fired several shots while yelling gang slogans, police said.

The man, a documented gang member, was shot in the left forearm and taken in good condition to Saint Bernard Hospital and Health Care Center, police said.

A few minutes earlier, a man was wounded when a gun went off during a domestic dispute in the South Shore neighborhood.

The man, 43, was arguing with his 57-year-old girlfriend in the 7800 block of South Cregier Avenue about 12:55 a.m. when he began hitting her with his fists, then grabbed a gun and threatened to shoot her, police said.

They struggled over the gun, and it went off and the man was shot in the ear, police said. The handgun was recovered after the incident.

He was treated and released from Stroger Hospital, then taken into police custody. Charges are pending against him early Friday, police said.

About 12:40 a.m. Thursday, a man was shot in the neck during a home invasion in Englewood, police said.

The man, 37, was inside an apartment in the 6400 block of South Lowe Avenue when three males forced their way in and opened fire, police said.

The man was taken in “stable” condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn with a gunshot wound to the neck, police said.

A man was shot in a parking lot in the West Englewood neighborhood Wednesday night.

The 22-year-old was walking through a parking lot in the 6900 block of South Ashland Avenue about 10:20 p.m. when he heard shots ring out and felt pain, police said.

He was shot in the right leg and taken in “stable” condition to Christ Medical Center.

Area detectives are investigating the shootings.
