(STMW) – One man was killed and at least eight others have been wounded in shootings across the city since Friday evening.
A man was shot and killed Friday night in the North Lawndale neighborhood on the Southwest Side.
Dewey Knox, 27, was standing on the sidewalk in the 1300 block of South Central Park Avenue about 11:55 p.m. when a dark-colored sedan drove past and someone inside fired shots, according to police and the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.
Knox, of the 1400 block of South Troy Street, suffered a gunshot wound to the back and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 12:22 a.m., authorities said.
The most recent non-fatal shooting injured four people — two men and a woman — early Saturday in the Humboldt Park neighborhood on the West Side.
The four were in a vehicle traveling westbound in the 3300 block of West Beach Avenue about 2:20 a.m., when they heard shots ring out and realized they each had been struck, police said.
They then drove themselves to Norwegian American Hospital, police said. The 19-year-old woman was shot in the left leg; an 18-year-old man was shot in the back; a 20-year-old man suffered gunshot wounds to both arms; and a third man, 21, was shot in the right shoulder, police said. All four were listed in “stable” condition.
Police believe the shooting may have been gang-related.
Shortly before midnight, two men were critically injured in an Englewood neighborhood drive-by shooting.
The men, ages 20 and 22, were walking on the sidewalk in the 6900 block of South Parnell Avenue about 11:55 p.m. when a light-colored sedan drove by and someone inside fired shots, police said.
The 20-year-old man suffered gunshot wounds to the buttocks, hip and abdomen, and 22-year-old man was shot in the left hand and right arm, police said. Both men were taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County in critical condition.
About 11:20 p.m., a 39-year-old man was shot in the 3900 block of West Madison Street in the West Garfield Park neighborhood. He suffered a graze wound to his forearm and was taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County, where he was treated and released, police said.
The first shooting of the weekend happened about 7:10 p.m. Friday in the Austin neighborhood.
A man, 19, was shot twice in the chest about 7:10 p.m. in the 2200 block of West Adams Boulevard, police said. He later walked into John H. Stroger Hospital of Cook County, where he was listed in serious condition. The man is a documented gang member, according to police.
No one is in custody for any of the shootings as area detectives investigate.
