(CBS) – A 19-year-old City Colleges student was fighting for his life Thursday after he was shot in the head during a robbery in the Chicago Lawn neighborhood.
Kevin Baker, a freshman at Harold Washington College, was shot during what is believed to be a robbery at 4:15 p.m. at 62nd and South Campbell. Even though Baker handed over his cell phone, a gunman in a group of three men still shot him, the victim’s cousin, Arlene Allen, tells reporters.
She said Baker often posted 0n his Facebook page that he was proud to be getting an education and staying off the streets.
“But it doesn’t matter, because no matter what you do, there’s nothing you can fix with that. They’re still going to do what they want to do, anyway,” Allen said.
Baker was in critical condition at Advocate Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn late Thursday.
