CHICAGO (STMW) – A 13-year-old boy who allegedly admitted to police that he fatally shot his 16-year-old cousin Sunday in the South Side Bronzeville neighborhood has been ordered held, according to prosecutors.

The teen is charged as juvenile with first-degree murder and at a hearing Monday, Judge Stuart Katz ordered him held in custody, according to Cook County State’s Attorney’s office spokeswoman Tandra Simonton.

Early on Sunday, the 13-year-old shot his cousin, 16-year-old Raymond Galloway, in the head as the victim slept in the younger boy’s bedroom, prosecutors allege.

The boy made a statement to police admitting to the shooting, according to court records.

Police said a possible argument over video games may have led to the shooting, which occurred about 5:50 a.m. in the 500 block of East 38th Place.

Galloway, of the 4300 block of South Champlain Avenue, was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 7:32 a.m., authorities said.

It is unclear how the 13-year-old obtained the gun, police said.

The judge set a status hearing in the case for 9 a.m. on Jan. 17, Simonton said. The boy’s name is not being released because of his age.
