(CBS) – At least three residents have been left homeless following an early Christmas Day fire in Englewood.
Fire gutted the South Side home at 6941 South Throop and sent residents running for safety.
A man identifying himself as Richard stood on a neighbor’s porch, as firefighters put out the fast-moving fire and tossed smoldering furniture out the first floor windows.
He said he woke up to the sound of a smoke detector at 6:30 a.m. He said he got his daughter and mother out of the house, and soon after fire had engulfed the whole home.
“It doesn’t even seem like Christmas,” he told WBBM’s Mike Krauser.
Neighbors stood around watching the clean-up and remarking that it’s a shame this happened on the holiday.
