ComEd To Send Crews To Michigan After Storm Left Thousands Without Power

(CBS) — About 30 ComEd workers will be spending the holidays in Michigan – helping their counterparts there – now that at least 200,000 homes are without power after a winter storm tore through the state.

It was late summer and early fall when ComEd got some help from utility crews elsewhere – as ComEd was trying to keep up with repairs on storm-damaged lines.

Now, Bill McBride, vice president of ComEd’s distribution operations, says crews from here are going to Michigan to help.

“Obviously these are all volunteers because they’re giving up their holidays with their family here to go out and help these people.

“Then… we create our little caravan of ComEd trucks and we head out there to get their customers back in service, much in the same way they would (help) us.”

McBride says the Chicago crews will probably be in Michigan at least through this week.
