(CBS) – Multiple suspects are in custody in connection with Friday’s fatal shooting of a Cook County sheriff’s officer, a spokesman for Sheriff Tom Dart tells CBS 2.
Cuauhtemoc Estrada, 50, was gunned down Friday night in a VFW parking lot in Bellwood while trying to stop his daughter from being robbed.
On Saturday, CBS 2 observed police taking evidence a house in Bellwood, about a block away from the shooting scene.
Estrada, a father of four and former Marine, was at a family Christmas party he organized. He stepped outside and apparently came upon suspects trying to rob his daughter.
“All he talked about was serving people. He was one of the best investigators that we ever had,” Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart told reporters Friday.
