CHICAGO (CBS) – The Chicago Police Department has honored dads on this Father’s Day with a special mass at the Gold Star Memorial and Park.

Chicago Police Officer Michael Patrick Gordon was a father to three children.

“He was on routine patrol in the 11th District on a Sunday morning, just like this, and he was struck by a drunk driver.”

“This is the first time I came to the Father’s Day mass in six years of working for the memorial. And for whatever reason I thought today would be a good day to come out…

Officer Michael Gordon was 30 years old. He was killed 10 years ago.

“It’s a beautiful day and you just wish he could join us just like past Father’s Days. But he’s here in spirit.”

Carla Pentimone was at the mass to honor three generations of police officers in the family: her grandfather Joe, who died 20 years ago, her father; and her brother, who’s in the police academy.

“Joe Pentimone has left a legacy with Jerry Pentimone being another police officer and now my brother Joe Pentimone following the line as well. It’s an amazing and heroic profession and I think that we are all very grateful,” she said.
