(CBS) — People across the country stopped at 3 p.m. Chicago time to mark Flag Day by singing the national anthem.

WBBM’s Bob Roberts reports the Chicago Children’s Choir sang on the seventh floor of Macy’s on State Street adjacent to a flag 50 feet wide and 100 feet long.

Bill Bracken came from Austin, Texas, to visit the store and attend the Flag Day ceremony. He says it’s important to remember the national anthem on its 200th birthday.

“It is because we have such a great country and it describes the freedom and it describes our nation so well. I’m very happy that we celebrate it still,” said Bracken.

The flag is the third of its size to hang from the atrium of the former Marshall Fields flagship store, a tradition that dates back to 1916. It will hang through the Fourth of July.
