CHICAGO (STMW) — After eight years, a missing dog will be returned to its owners in Washington D.C. after a Chicago Police officer found the pug tied to a pole in Rogers Park Monday afternoon.
The officer was in the 7300 block of North Clark Street about 3:55 p.m. when he saw the 8-year-old dog, which had been tied up for five hours. The officer then took it to a pet adoption center in the 6300 block of North Paulina Street, according to a release from Chicago Police.
The adoption center found a tracking chip on the pug and determined that it was registered to another animal clinic, where it had been missing from for two years, police said. However, the dog had been missing from its original owners for most of its life.
The clinic that the dog was registered to was able to contact the owners, who now live in Washington D.C. and the dog will be returned to them by a family member still in Chicago, police said.
The officer who found the dog wishes to remain anonymous.
