(STMW) – A northwest suburban man is charged with attempted murder for spraying a woman with accelerant and setting her on fire Thursday night, according to police.

Anthony D. Cohn, 32, of Woodstock is charged with attempted murder and aggravated battery with a flammable substance causing great bodily harm, a statement from Woodstock police said.

About 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Cohn sprayed a 36-year-old acquaintance’s back with an accelerant, then ignited it at a home in the 100 block of North Seminary Avenue in Woodstock, police claim.

Witnesses were able to put out the flames, but the woman was left with serious burns, police said.

Authorities were notified of the incident Friday morning, when they were called to the 200 block of South Eastwood Drive and found the woman, who was taken to a hospital, police said.

Cohn was arrested nearby and taken to the McHenry County jail, where he remains in custody, police said. He is scheduled to appear in court at 8 a.m. Saturday in Woodstock.
