(CBS) — A ten-year-old Chicago girl is doing her part to bring relief to Bosnians suffering through historic mudslides, reports WBBM’s Nancy Harty.

Layla Mranic was born in the U.S. but her parents are from Bosnia. She has been watching with them the devastation from thousands of landslides triggered by record rain.

“The rivers, they’re really, really high and the flood is everywhere I mean everywhere. It is taking down houses with mudslides,” said Layla.

The 4th grader at Peterson Elementary in the Ravenswood neighborhood is collecting money through the website donationto.com.

“Anything is good, like one, two, five, ten dollars. Anything helps,” said Layala.

Her mother, Edina, says they are also collecting supplies to fly to Bosnia.

“Blankets, kids’ clothing, kids’ food, diapers, adult diapers,” said Edina.

She says they have collected about $1,200 so far and are accepting donations for another week.
