CHICAGO (CBS) – Breast cancer survivors joined Governor Pat Quinn and other dignitaries in Grant Park Sunday morning for what’s become a Mother’s Day tradition in the fight against a deadly disease.

Thousands of cancer survivors and their friends and family took part in the 17 Annual Susan G. Komen Foundation Mother’s Day Race for the Cure.

Wade Miquelon, executive vice president and chief financial officer for Walgreens and honorary chairman for the race says he has hope for a cure.

“I really do believe that in healthcare in general and in particular areas like breast cancer, we are very close to having technologies that can diagnose much quicker… and a host of treatments that are going to make life better and better,” said Miquelon.

75 percent of the money raised from the race will stay in the Chicagoland area.
