CHICAGO (STMW) — A man is dead and another is in critical condition after a gang related shooting Sunday afternoon in the South Lawndale neighborhood.
The shooting happened at 1:01 p.m. in the 2800 block of South Sawyer Avenue, police said, citing preliminary information. One man, 33, suffered a gunshot wound to the head and was pronounced dead at the scene. A second person, 19, was shot in the chest and taken to an unknown hospital where he is in critical condition, police added.
According to police, several people inside an orange SUV confronted the two and later opened fire. The vehicle then sped off and left the scene.
The Cook County Medical Examiner’s office could not immediately confirm the death Sunday afternoon.
No suspects are in custody as Area Central detectives investigate.
