Group Of Chicago Catholics Headed To Rome For John Paul II’s Canonization

CHICAGO (CBS) — A group of Roman Catholics from Chicago are headed to Rome next week to witness the elevation of Pope John Paul II to sainthood.

About 100 people associated with the evangelization organization JP2 group are leaving on Tuesday.

All but a handful are from Chicago and all are Polish.

Bogdan Ogorek from Holy Trinity Polish Mission in Chicago’s Ukrainian Village is leading the group.

The trip will begin in Poland, where John Paul was born and went to school, before heading to Rome for the canonization on the 27th.

Ogorek says many Poles are so excited because John Paul the Second is their most famous countryman and also because his humanizing approach to being pope.
