CHICAGO (CBS) — Police have a suspect in custody for a mid-afternoon Loop bank robbery.
The robbery occurred shortly after 3 p.m. Tuesday, at the Fifth Third branch at 1 S. Dearborn St. FBI Special Agent Joan Hyde said the robber displayed no weapon but handed a teller a note indicating that he was armed, and the teller complied.
The man was easily identifiable, and that may have contributed to the quick arrest. He was black, about 30 years of age, had a medium build and wore a dark green hoodie, blue jeans, black gym shoes and wore a red backpack.
Within minutes, Hyde said, Chicago Police officers spotted a man matching the description at Chicago Avenue and Franklin Street and took him into custody.
Hyde said no shots were fired and said no one was hurt. It was unclear if the proceeds from the bank robbery were recovered.
Charges were expected to be approved Wednesday.
