Two Dead, 14 Wounded In Weekend Shootings

CHICAGO (STMW) – Two people were killed and at least 14 others were wounded in shootings across the city since Friday afternoon.A 37-year-old man was shot to death in the South Shore Avenue Friday night, police said. The man was shot multiple times in the 2800 block of East 76th Street at 9:26 p.m., and he was dead at the scene, police said.

The Cook County Medical Examiner’s office confirmed the death, but his identity was withheld early Saturday.

Earlier Friday afternoon, a 17-year-old girl was killed and two men were wounded in a shooting in the Woodlawn neighborhood on the South Side. The shooting happened about 3:30 p.m. in the 6400 block of South Eberhart Avenue, police said.

The girl, whose identity was being withheld pending notification of family, suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the upper body and was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, authorities said.

She was pronounced dead at Northwestern at 5:43 p.m., the medical examiner’s office said. Her home address was not known Saturday morning.

A 33-year-old man (police said he was 34) was shot in the foot and taken to Jackson Park Hospital in good condition, Fire Media Affairs said.

A 19-year-old man (police said he was 18) was also hurt in the shooting, but drove to the 4700 block of South Wabash Avenue before he was picked up by rescue crews, Fire Media Affairs said. He was taken to Mercy Hospital and Medical Center in “stable” condition.

The most recent non-fatal shooting occurred about 4 a.m. in the Pilsen neighborhood. Two men, both believed to be in their 20s, were shot near the intersection of 18th and Carpenter streets, police said.

They were both taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County in “stable” condition, police said.

A police source said the shooting is thought to be gang-related.

About a half hour earlier, two women were shot while riding in a vehicle in the Austin neighborhood.

The women were in a vehicle at a stoplight in the 500 block of North Cicero Avenue when shots were fired at them from a gray van, which then fled northbound, police said.

A 23-year-old woman was shot in the hand, and a 20-year-old woman suffered a gunshot wound to the neck, police said.

The women took themselves to Loretto Hospital, but the 20-year-old was transferred to Stroger Hospital in serious condition. The 23-year-old was at Loretto in good condition, police said.

At 2:35 a.m., a man was critically wounded in a shooting in the Humboldt Park neighborhood.

The 32-year-old was shot in the 3200 block of West Huron Street, police said. The shooting may have occurred during an attempted robbery, she said. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition with gunshot wounds to the chest and leg.

About the same time, a male, whose age was not immediately known, was shot in the 2000 block of East 71st Street in the South Shore neighborhood. He was shot in the thigh and taken to an area hospital in “stable” condition, police said.

A 25-year-old man was shot about 10:25 p.m. Friday in the Southwest Side Ashburn neighborhood. He was shot in the head at 81st Street and Kilpatrick Avenue, and was taken in critical condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, police said.

About 9:45 p.m., a male, whose age was not immediately known, was shot in the thigh in the 8200 block of South Maryland Avenue, police said. He was taken to an area hospital in “stable” condition.

About 9:15 p.m., a man was shot in the leg in the West Pullman neighborhood on the Far South Side. The man, 57, was shot in the 0-100 block of East 120th Street, police said. He was taken to a hospital in good condition.

Nearly an hour earlier, a teenage boy was shot in the Avalon Park neighborhood on the South Side. The 17-year-old’s head was grazed by a bullet at 8:05 p.m. in the 1500 block of East 79th Street, police said. He was taken to Stroger Hospital in good condition.

About 5:05 p.m., two people were shot in the South Chicago neighborhood. The 20-year-old woman and a 17-year-old boy were shot in the 8400 block of South Burnham Avenue, police said. The woman was shot in the chest and was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in critical condition. The boy was shot in the back and taken to South Shore Hospital in “stable” condition, police said.

No one is in custody for any of the shootings as area detectives investigate.
