(CBS) – A gun is put to the head of an employee heading to work at a high-end chocolate maker in Lake View.

Now, the head of the company is taking extra steps to keep her employees safe.

CBS 2′s Suzanne Le Mignot reports.

The employee, a worker at Vosges Haut Chocolat in Lake View, requested anonymity. He says four men in a black LTD or Crown Victoria approached him on his way in to work and put a revolver to his head.

“I said, ‘Wow, this might be it,” the employee says.

When the gunman asked him if he was in a gang, “I said, ‘No, absolutely not,’” the victim says.

The men drove away. But a few minutes later, they pulled what appeared to be an M-16 on the man’s co-worker, thinking he was the one they’re looking for.

“The other guy says, ‘Is this him? And the guy in the car says, ‘No. Let’s go,’” the employee said.

He called 9-1-1, but the response was muted, he says. The responding officer said “he’s aware that there’s some issues with the gang problems in the area.”

Police did not take a report. They were called back to the business, to do it Thursday morning.

“From the public view, I want a report written. I have a video of the car. I need some investigation,” owner Katrina Markoff says.

She says she’s now hiring off-duty Chicago police officers and security to make employees safer.

“We view our whole business as a family. If this happens to someone in your family, obviously, you’re very concerned,” Markoff says.

Police patrolled the business this morning, in response to what happened.

A spokesperson says the incident is under internal review and a police report was done before midnight the same day. Police began searching for the vehicle right after the call. The occupants are described as three white men, and an African-American man, who spoke Spanish.
