CHICAGO (CBS) – He was trusted to look out for his patients and now a much-respected Chicago eye doctor is accused of violating that trust with video cameras hidden in secret places.
Authorities says Dr. Robert Weiss installed a camera in a toilet tank in a ladies restroom at his offices Chicago Eye Institute on North Milwaukee and also at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center.
Weiss, 58, faces felony charges for unauthorized videotaping.
The hospital says Dr. Weiss will not be providing any patient care while the investigation continues.
It’s alleged the case cracked, per reports, when a woman discovered a small camera taped inside a toilet. The ensuing investigation lead to Dr. Weiss.
CBS 2’s Brad Edwards spoke with his employee Gloria Anderson.
“He’s a great surgeon. He’s a great plastic surgeon,” said Anderson. “It would be shocking if it is true, but I won’t know until I go to work tomorrow and I’m sure out great administrators will let us know something about it,” said Anderson.
Dr. Weiss was ordered held on $75,000 bail, which he posted. .
