The woman, whose exact age was not immediately known, was sitting in her vehicle at a parking lot about 8 p.m. in the 1400 block of North Randall Road when a male approached and opened one of the doors, Elgin police said in a statement.

He started hitting the woman on her head, but she fought him off and ran to get help, police said. She did not need medical treatment.

Police were not releasing a description of the male.
