CHICAGO (STMW) – A woman left five dogs alone in a vehicle for about six hours Friday afternoon in the Bucktown neighborhood.
About 4:30 p.m., someone saw the woman walk away from her parked vehicle in the 2400 block of North Artesian Avenue, which had five dogs inside, police News Affairs Officer Michael Sullivan said.
The dogs did not have food or water in the vehicle, and the heat was not turned on, Sullivan said.
The person who first saw the woman park the vehicle called police about 10:30 p.m., and firefighters rescued the dogs from the vehicle, Sullivan said.
The dogs were taken to Chicago Animal Care and Control, whose conditions were not immediately known.
The woman, whose exact age or name was not released, was cited for animal owner duties, Sullivan said.
