1 Dead, 12 Wounded In Shootings Since Friday

CHICAGO (STMW) — One person is dead and 12 others wounded in shootings across the city since early Friday.

A man was killed in the Grand Boulevard neighborhood on the South Side about 1:30 p.m. Friday.

The 20-year-old man was shot in the head in the 300 block of East 51st Street and was pronounced dead at the scene, police said

The Cook County Medical Examiner’s office confirmed the death but would not provide any more details Saturday morning.

The most recent non-fatal shooting happened on the in the Humboldt Park neighborhood about 7:30 a.m. in the 3500 block of West Hirsch Street, when a man was shot in the leg, police said.

He was taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County, but his condition was not immediately known.

Before that, a teenage boy was wounded in a shooting at 4:50 a.m. Saturday in the Logan Square neighborhood.

A 16-year-old boy was a passenger in a vehicle in the 4000 block of West Fullerton Avenue when people passing in another vehicle started flashing gang signs and started shooting, police said.

The 16-year-old was hit in his left calf and taken to Our Lady of the Resurrection Medical Center, where he was listed in good condition, police said.

About an hour earlier, another teen was shot in the West Englewood neighborhood.

About 4 a.m., a 17-year-old boy was in the 6800 block of South Throop Street when he was shot in the leg, police said.

He was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was listed in “stable” condition, Gaines said.

Two hours earlier, two men were shot in Englewood.

The men, 21 and 39, were in the 500 block of West Tremont Street when they were shot, police said.

The 21-year-old was shot in the head and was taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County in serious condition, police said. The 39-year-old was shot in the buttocks and was in “stable” condition at Stroger.

Another man was shot in Avalon Park on the South Side about 12:45 a.m.

The 19-year-old was shot about 12:45 a.m. in the 8500 block of South East End Avenue, police said.

He was taken to Roseland Community Hospital in good condition, police said.

A FedEx worker and a 19-year-old man were shot six hours earlier Friday evening in Hyde Park.

About 6:40 p.m., a 19-year-old man and the worker were shot in the 4100 block of South Drexel Avenue, police said.

The female worker, whose age was not immediately known, was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in serious condition with two gunshot wounds to her right leg, police said.

“This is a difficult time for us. Our primary concern is the safety and well-being of our employees,” FedEx said in a statement.

FedEx officials said they are cooperating with police.

The 19-year-old man was shot in the left arm and was also taken to Northwestern in good condition, police said.

Earlier, in the afternoon, a man was shot in the South Side New City neighborhood.

About 12:40 p.m., the 25-year-old man was in the 5100 block of South Emerald Avenue when he was shot in the thigh, police said. He was taken to Stroger, but his condition was not immediately known.

Two people were shot 40 minutes earlier in the Rogers Park neighborhood on the North Side.

The men, 25 and 41, were shot while in the 1500 block of West Morse Avenue, police said.

The 41-year-old was shot in the right leg, while the 25-year-old was shot in the buttocks, police said. Both were taken to Presence Saint Francis Hospital in Evanston and were listed in “stable” condition.

Early Friday, an 18-year-old man was shot as he was driving a car in the Calumet Heights neighborhood.

He was in the 9400 block of South Commercial Avenue at 1:43 a.m. when another driver pulled up next to his car and someone inside fired shots at him, police said.

He was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in good condition with a gunshot wound to his lower abdomen, police said.

No one is in custody for any of the shootings.

In addition to those shootings, an off-duty Chicago Police shot one of three men who allegedy tried to break into his home about noon Friday in the 9600 block of South Princeton Avenue. Two men are in custody for the alleged break-in, police said.
