CHICAGO (STMW) – Two men were killed and ten other people were hurt in shootings across Chicago since Saturday morning.
A 22-year-old man was shot to death in the Englewood neighborhood on the South Side Sunday afternoon. He was shot in the chest about 2:45 p.m. in the 300 block of West 60th Place, police said. Police said the man was a parolee with gang affiliations.
He was dead at the scene, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office. His identity has not yet been released pending family notification.
About 1:35 a.m. Sunday, 26-year-old man was fatally shot in the West Side Austin neighborhood. He was shot in the chest and side in the 5600 block of West Bloomingdale Avenue, police said.
He was taken to Loyola University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 2:07 a.m., the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office said. His identity has not yet been released pending notification of his family.
The most recent non-fatal shooting occurred about 11 a.m. in the South Chicago neighborhood. A 23-year-old man was shot in both arms in the 8000 block of South Manistee Avenue, police said. He was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in “stable” condition.
Earlier in Pilsen, a 41-year-old man, who police said has known gang ties in the area, was shot in the back and left arm about 8:50 a.m. in the 1300 block of West 18th Place, police said.
He was taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County in critical condition, police said. Police believe the shooting was gang-related.
About 4 a.m. Sunday in the Austin neighborhood, a 22-year-old man was in a vehicle with others in the 100 block of North Lorel Avenue when someone approached on foot, fired shots into the car and fled the scene, police said.
The man was shot in the shoulder and taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County in “stable” condition, police said.
A few hours earlier, three men were shot near an Englewood bar on the South Side. Two of the men, 30 and 31, were at a bar in the 1100 block of West 63rd Street when four people on foot fired shots from outside about 1:45 a.m., striking the men through a window, police said.
Right after the shooting, the 30-year-old and his friend were headed for a hospital in the friend’s van when police stopped them for speeding in the 6400 block of South Elizabeth Street, police said. Officers called an ambulance when they saw the victim, and he was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he is in “stable” condition, police said.
The 31-year-old victim was also shot in the abdomen and taken from the bar to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County, where he is listed in serious condition, police said.
A third man, 24, took himself to Christ Medical Center with a gunshot wound to his upper right back, where he is in “stable” condition. Greer said. The man told police he was part of the same shooting, but it’s still unknown whether he was inside the bar like the other two victims, police said.
A man was hurt in a drive-by shooting in the Logan Square neighborhood about 11:30 p.m. Saturday. The 42-year-old was the passenger in a vehicle in an alley in the 3800 block of West Diversey Parkway when shots were fired from a passing dark-colored SUV, police said.
The driver dropped the man off with a gunshot wound to the back at Our Lady of the Resurrection Medical Center, police said. He was later transferred to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center in “stable” condition.
Earlier Saturday evening, two people were shot in the Fuller Park neighborhood on the South Side. A man and a woman got out of a vehicle in the 4400 block of South Princeton Avenue about 6:35 p.m. when an unknown gunman approached on foot and opened fire, police said.
The woman, 23, was shot in the thigh and taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County in serious but “stable” condition, police said.
The man suffered a graze wound to the neck but refused medical attention, police said. His age was not immediately known.
The first shooting of the weekend happened early Saturday morning in the Austin neighborhood. An 18-year-old man was riding in the passenger seat of a vehicle stopped at a stoplight in the 5700 block of West Chicago Avenue about 3:40 a.m., police said. A black vehicle pulled up alongside and somebody inside opened fire, police said.
The man was shot in the right leg and was driven to West Suburban Medical Center in Oak Park, where he was listed in “stable” condition, police said.
Nobody is in custody for any of the shootings as area detectives investigate.
