CHICAGO (STMW) — A woman was found stabbed to death in a building that caught fire Friday afternoon in the Southwest Side Brighton Park neighborhood.
The extra-alarm fire started about 1:50 p.m. in a 3-story house in the 2500 block of West 45th Place, police and fire officials said.
Lucy Wrobel, 51, was found with multiple stab wounds inside her home, which was one of several buildings that caught fire, authorities said. She was pronounced dead at 4:35 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.
The fire was struck out by 3:30 p.m. and no one else was injured, Fire Media Affairs spokeswoman Verdi Allen said, adding no rescues were required.
An autopsy performed Saturday found that Wrobel died of multiple injuries from a physical assault and her death was ruled a homicide.
The Office of Fire Investigation and Area Central detectives are investigating.
