CHICAGO (CBS) — Six years and thousands of tips later, there has been no arrest in the Lane Bryant massacre.
This weekend marked the sixth anniversary of the day five women were fatally shot in the back of a Tinley Park clothing store on Feb 2. 2008.
Rhoda McFarland, Carrie Hudek Chiuso, Sarah Szafranski, Jennifer Bishop and Connie Woolfolk were killed when a man, described as a stocky African American, 6 feet to 6-2 tall, posed as a delivery man, said he was robbing the place and shot the women dead.
February 2, 2008 was the darkest day for the family of Jennifer Bishop. Police were initially hopeful they’d find the man responsible, relying on a detailed description of the shooter from the sole survivor, Rhoda McFarland.
In an interview in 2013 with CBS 2′s Marissa Bailey, Brian Bishop, the victim’s husband, said he’s not counting on ever seeing a resolution.
“Would you like to see justice done? Yes, but do I lose sleep because he’s still out there at night? No,” he said.
This past November, T.J. Maxx opened a store at that location.
T.J. Maxx issued a statement at the time: “We certainly understand the many sensitivities regarding this location and we respectfully look forward to supporting the community as a good neighbor.”
The company said it donated $10,000 to a Tinley Park-based charity, Together We Cope, in honor of the victims.
Another mass shooting, at the Brown’s Chicken restaurant in Palatine in 1993, took nine years to solve. Juan Luna and James Degorski were sentenced to life in prison in the deaths of seven workers.
