CHICAGO (CBS) — Mayor Emanuel stopped by the Office of Emergency Communications at noon Saturday to thank city workers for keeping the city moving during the storm.
WBBM’s Mike Krauser reports the Mayor stood in front of a big screen in front of the plow tracker map, dotted with plows moving around the city and said as of midday they were moving on to the side streets.
“The main part is to make sure that the city and the residents never come to any standstill. That we are able to do what we need to do and people can get to where they need to go and that both the roads as well as public transportation is operable for the city of Chicago at this time,” said Emanuel.
“Obviously, I think with all residents this has been quite a winter and it is obviously testing everybody. That said, to the workers at 311 and the employees on our trucks, both plow and salt and everybody in between, I want to commend them for a job well done.”
The Mayor was not biting when asked how long he would put up with people using chairs and other items on residential streets to save parking spaces.
