CHICAGO (CBS) — A man believed to in his 60s and homeless was found frozen to death Wednesday night in the alley behind the 3200 block of West Fullerton in Logan Square.

He is the 14th cold related death in Cook County this winter.

On another brutally cold night, Chicagoans heading home for work were thinking about getting home and getting warm.

“A cup of coffee or hot chocolate and eat, and getting under five covers,” said Darlene Wilson.

“The best thing to do is lay on the couch, put on a good movie and hang out with the wife, baby and the dog. American dream right there,” said Gary Michaels.

Also, volunteers and workers from the city Department of Family Services and Support met before heading out into the streets to conduct a census of the homeless to help the city formulate programs for them.

“If we do it in late January when the weather is its coldest, we can be sure that the shelters are probably at their fullest,” said DFSS Commissioner John Pfeiffer.

The census takers will also work the streets and sidewalks, the so called “homeless hot spots”
